Responsibilities
Join our team at Northridge Hospital Medical Center and play a crucial role in ensuring patient safety! As a Sterile Processing Technician, you will be responsible for providing sterile equipment and supplies to various departments throughout the hospital. Your meticulous work in cleaning, sterilizing, and distributing instruments directly contributes to preventing infections and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. You will utilize approved cleaning and sterilization techniques to maintain a safe and efficient environment.
- Decontaminate and Clean: Thoroughly clean and decontaminate surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established policies and procedures.
- Inspect and Assemble: Carefully inspect instruments for damage or defects, assemble instrument trays and sets according to established protocols and manufacturer's recommendations.
- Sterilize Equipment: Operate and maintain cleaning and sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves) according to manufacturer's instructions and departmental procedures.
- Monitor Sterilization Processes: Perform biological tests and maintain accurate records of all autoclave cycles to ensure effective sterilization.
- Maintain Inventory: Manage inventory levels of supplies and equipment, and accurately fill surgical case cart requisitions using the hospital computer system.
- Ensure Quality and Safety: Demonstrate a strong understanding of sterilization principles, asepsis, infection control, and universal safety precautions. Maintain neat and orderly work areas and sterile fields.
- Communicate Effectively: Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with coworkers and supervisory staff to ensure smooth and efficient operating room activities.
- Maintain Equipment: Inspect instruments to ensure they are in good working condition and coordinate repairs or sharpening as needed.
- Adhere to Policies: Comply with all established hospital and departmental policies, protocols, procedures, and objectives.
- Maintain Professional Relationships: Establish and maintain professional, cooperative relationships with other staff members, physicians, patients, patient family members, and the public, while ensuring patient confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of technical operating/instrument room experience with certification in sterile processing required.
- Prior large Hospital/acute care experience preferred.
- GI experience preferred.
- Knowledge of specialty instruments and thorough knowledge of sterilization and disinfecting parameters (steam ETO Cidex Steris) required.
- Familiarity with current Federal and state laws and regulations as related to specialty.
- Central Service Technician certification (CRCST) preferred.
- Current AHA BLS card.
- Fire Card (within 90 days of hire) required.
This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.
