Responsibilities
A Level III NICU, like ours at Northridge Hospital, provides advanced treatment for seriously ill, low birth weight and premature babies, including micropreemies. This is a designation only given to hospitals that can care for the most complicated births and provide immediate surgery, if needed, for premature babies. Our NICU gives infants a greater chance to thrive. It’s designed to provide an atmosphere that limits stress to the infant and meets basic needs of warmth, nutrition and protection to assure proper growth and development.
The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients of all ages in accordance with individual needs, physician orders, Hospital policy and standards of nursing practice. He/she is responsible for directing and coordinating members of the care team, focusing on the provision of individualized quality patient care consistent with organizational values.
- Provides exceptional patient care while adhering to all hospital policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards.
- Utilizes clinical expertise to coordinate and evaluate patient care plans, ensuring optimal outcomes.
- Collaborates effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and families, maintaining confidentiality and fostering a supportive environment.
- Demonstrates sound nursing judgment and a thorough understanding of the nursing process.
- Supervises and guides interdisciplinary team members, ensuring coordinated and effective patient care.
- Provides leadership by prioritizing tasks and coordinating nursing care activities.
- Accurately documents and communicates patient information to the interdisciplinary team.
- Provides patient and family education based on identified needs.
- Communicates the care plan to patients and their families, actively involving them in their treatment.
- Conducts regular patient rounds, addressing pain management, skin integrity, elimination, and other needs.
- Utilizes appropriate communication channels within the organization.
- Administers medications accurately and monitors patient responses, initiating appropriate interventions.
- Participates in continuous performance improvement initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Minimum 1 years current acute care registered nursing experience in specialty area required.
- Minimum 1 year experience in NICU required.
- Registered Nurse with current California License required.
- Current AHA NRP certification required
- Current AHA BLS card required.
- Current certification in specialty area preferred.
- LA City Fire Care required within 90 days of hire.
This position is represented by SEIU L121 and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
