Under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse the OBSTETRICAL TECHNICIAN assists in the care and preparation of the obstetrical patient in accordance with individual needs physician orders Hospital policy and standards of patient care. All employees are expected to perform their duties in alignment with the vision and values of the organization.  The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction in the most cost-effective manner with respect and dignity. 

Responsibilities
  • Adheres to established Hospital/departmental policies, procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment and Improvement Program, legal, safety, environmental, infection control standards and Patient's Bill of Rights.
  • Identifies and prepares appropriate instrumentation, supplies and equipment based on identified obstetrical procedures.
  • Maintains and monitors aseptic technique.
  • Assists the obstetrical team during delivery procedures as appropriate.
  • Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs.
  • Provides comfort and support for obstetrical patients. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient's care and privacy.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of organizational structure and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
  • Demonstrates a cooperative manner when dealing with all members of the health care team.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the approaches to and methods of Continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Serve as a preceptor and role model to new Obstetrical Technicians and students.
  • May perform duties of the Unit Secretary or Nursing Assistant.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience as an Obstetrical Technician in an acute care environment required.
  • Must have successful completion of a Surgical Technician accredited/approved program. 
  • Current AHA BLS card required.
  • Must maintain current Fire Safety cards.

This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.
