As a Nurse Practitioner of the Lung Screening Program has medical staff privileges and is responsible for coordinating and implementing services and activities related to the Lung Screening Program. Responsible for Developing and managing a new lung cancer screening program, including designing implementation strategies, quality assessment, and improving implementation of the program. Working with the local hospital and program wide leaders to ensure project clinical reminders and templates are implemented appropriately. Organizing and leading in-services to educate and share information about the lung cancer screening program with clinical staff.
Responsibilities
- Developing and managing a new lung cancer screening program, including designing implementation strategies, quality assessment, and improving implementation of program.
- Working with the local hospital and program wide leaders to ensure project clinical reminders and templates are implemented appropriately
- Organizing and leading in-services to educate and share information about the lung cancer screening program with clinical staff.
- Optimizing patient-centered care practices through patient education, care management, and appropriate utilization of system processes.
- Maintaining pulmonary module and follow up care databases.
- Participating in all activities relating to the Lung Cancer Screening Program, including education, development of patient educational materials, continuing quality and safety initiatives, continuing medical education programs, direct patient care, and other activities related to the Lung Cancer Screening Program and Thoracic Oncology.
- Overseeing the pre-screening of patients for appropriateness of lung cancer screening, and discusses rational and options with patients. Obtaining comprehensive health histories and performing complete physical examinations during initial evaluation, as well as subsequent follow up. Documenting in medical record.
- Communication patient status information, attending outpatient clinics, attending Tumor Board and other educational and administrative meetings related to the Lung Cancer Screening Program, and appropriately documenting progress in medical record
- Entering diagnostic imaging and laboratory orders, ordering appropriate tests and therapy, interpreting results and outcomes, discussing appropriate plans and interventions with members of the Lung Cancer Screening Program.
- Provide regular communication and reports to the leaders of the Lung Cancer Screening Program; identifying protocol problems, informing leaders of problems, and assisting in problem resolution efforts.
- Supporting the research mission through collaboration with investigators and protocol personnel.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years acute care registered nurse experience or lung cancer screening navigation.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license current in CA is required.
- Nurse Practitioner license required with prescriptive authority.
- MSN or Master’s in related field with BSN or bachelor’s in related field or doctoral degree in nursing or related field.
- Current AHA BLS card required.
- LA Fire Card required within 90 days of hire.
