Patient Access Representative

As our Patient Access Representative at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary, you’ll help patients access the care they need by providing accurate registration and welcoming, professional service. You’ll gather and verify patient information, confirm insurance coverage, and assist with scheduling and financial questions.

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring strong attention to detail, clear communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks. You’ll work closely with patients, families, and healthcare teams to support a positive patient experience while protecting confidential information.

• Register patients across assigned hospital access areas, ensuring accurate demographic, insurance, and account information.

• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, resolve routine discrepancies, and escalate complex issues.

• Explain patient financial responsibility using approved tools and collect payments at the time of service as appropriate.

• Schedule, confirm, and update patient appointments.

• Scan, index, and process patient records and registration documents accurately and promptly.

• Answer telephone inquiries, route calls, and document patient interactions.

• Collaborate with internal departments to support timely registration and access to care.

• Use multiple systems to meet quality, productivity, and service standards.

• Cross-train and provide coverage across patient access and clerical functions as needed.

• Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements and organizational policies.

Required:

• High school diploma or GED; and

• Basic administrative skills, including reception and telephone support; and

• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and data entry.

Preferred:

• One year of relevant experience in healthcare or a patient access setting.

• Knowledge of patient registration procedures and documentation, health insurance payers, and real-time insurance eligibility verification.
