Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Security Officer, you will monitor buildings and grounds on the property to ensure the safety and security of employees, patients, and other visitors.

Every day you will monitor the property by walking and driving around the premises. Your security detail could include guarding facility and unit access points, monitoring surveillance cameras, testing new security technology, and protecting all employees/visitors against acts of violence should they arise.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need the ability to remain calm and take action based on the situation, known facts, and understand the position limitations. You are also expected to respond to emergency codes in a timely manner. Previous experience in security/patrol in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Essential Functions Include:

  • Provides leadership for Security Services and Ensures delivery of quality services; regulatory compliance, and manages operations efficiently and effectively.
  • Assist with oversight of the campus security and parking enforcement
  • Plans, organizes and directs work assignments. Assists with training of security staff. Ensures that all Security Officers assigned to the shift meet program standards, including uniform and grooming standards
  • Assists with the implementation and maintenance of security procedures to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Makes recommendations to improve physical security and/or department operations.
  • Prepares all required shift paperwork. Conducts ongoing security orientation and training of assigned staff and may serve as Field Training Officer.
  • Ensuring that the employee perspective is the driving force behind your actions and business decisions; crafting and implementing service that meets employees and the organization’s needs. (Focus also includes internal and external customers. Demonstrates breadth and/or depth of professional/technical skills and capabilities required for position; shares knowledge; sets or contributes to CommonSpirit Health’s direction within area of expertise.

The Lead Security Officer has a dual role within the security program. In addition to their duties and responsibilities as a security officer, they also are assigned administrative duties to ensure program continuity when department leaders are not available. As the Lead Security Officer they are responsible for ensuring that assigned posts are staffed, all security incidents are properly responded to and documented in accordance with department procedures. The Lead Security Officer also serves as the primary site contact for law enforcement agencies when senior Security leadership is not on site. It is expected that the Lead Security Officer will demonstrate behavior consistent with CommonSpirit Health core values and Humankindness. The Lead Security Officer shall support CommonSpirit Health's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities.


Job Requirements

Required:

  • High School Graduate, GED, and Six (6) months of experience as a security officer in a healthcare setting, Law enforcement or military service, upon hire or
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Security Officer, upon hire
  • California Security Guard, upon hire and
  • California Driver's License: CA, within 30 Days and
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, within 90 Days, we accept American Heart Association, and
  • Familiar with duties and responsibility of being a security officer
  • Able to properly use assigned equipment and follow established policies and procedures
  • Completes ICS 100, 200, 700 training courses within 90 days of hire
  • Maintain all other required training/certifications thereafter while employed by CommonSpirit Health
  • Must be able to speak English, communicate clearly orally and in writing
  • Knowledgeable in the use of de-escalation techniques
  • International Association of Healthcare Security Services (IAHSS) Basic & Advanced courses
  • Must be able to speak English, communicate clearly orally, and in writing.

Preferred:

  • Basic Health Care Security Officer, within 90 Days
