Responsibilities

Under general supervision to provide prescribed medications drugs and other pharmaceutical compound medications to neonatal pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patients according to professional and division standards and practices; to advise and consult with patients and families medical and nursing staff; to do related work.

  • Accurately interprets medication orders to ensure appropriate drug, dose, route, and form according to the age and size of the patient, i.e. neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric dosages according to departmental policy.
  • Accurately processes medication orders concerning patient, drug, dose, strength, route, dosage form and duration utilizing the pharmacy computer system and Intervenes when necessary by contacting a physician to make necessary changes.
  • Dispenses controlled substances according to state and federal law. Accurately maintains controlled substance control documents and controlled substance inventory.
  • Continually prepares or supervises the preparation of intravenous admixtures or hyperalimentation solutions using aseptic technique according to current standards of practice.
  • Consults with medical staff and with nursing staff to provide accurate, complete information about drug therapy in accordance with current standards of practice.


Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Possess and maintain a current Pharmacist license with the State of California

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of unit dose drug distribution and IV admixture services compounding of prescriptions pharmaceutical preparations drug interactions incompatibilities adverse reactions and drug toxicities.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations relative to the dispensing storage and use of controlled and prescriptions drugs
