Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, the Manager of Laboratory Services oversees the 24-hour operations of the laboratory to meet organizational needs and comply with federal and state requirements. Directs, plans, organizes and implements strategies, and initiatives to enhance and support the operations of the laboratory to ensure high quality, efficient, and cost-effective operations. Develops and implements policies and procedures, programs, and initiatives that support the mission, growth and success of the institution. Provides direction to department personnel to achieve operational and technical objectives including workflow design, service quality, financial performance, regulatory
compliance, personnel management, patient satisfaction, and employee engagement.

  • Monitors employee and departmental performance to ensure adherence to policies and procedures, timelines and regulatory requirements
  • Remains knowledgeable on new technologies, methods and approaches within the laboratory community
  • Stays informed on and quickly ensures compliance with changes to regulatory and state requirements.
  • Ensures ongoing compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Responsible for development, implementation and compliance with policy and procedures.
  • Develops monitoring systems to improve quality; initiates corrective action plans, and monitors results.
  • Evaluates existing systems and processes and develops corrective action plans for service/quality trends identified
  • Ensures prompt and effective resolution of quality or service concerns.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • California Clinical Laboratory Science License
  • Job duties require technical leadership and expertise. Some financial management experience is needed. Competent in Human Resources, Equipment Management, Quality Management, and Workflow Design. Strong knowledge in state and federal regulations is required in order to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in biological or chemical sciences, as defined by CLIA.
  • One year of leadership experience at a supervisory level or higher at a moderate or high complexity laboratory.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree
  • One Year of experience as a Manager
