Responsibilities

Assists the Laboratory Support Supervisor with the direction of the laboratory clerks and phlebotomists in their daily duties.  This includes but is not limited to some of the following duties/responsibilities:  all phlebotomy duties/responsibilities ensuring immediate responses to Code Blues Stroke Alerts Surgery Venipunctures/Phlebotomy timeliness for ‘Timed’ priority venipunctures arranging for shift coverage due to unscheduled absences ordering and distribution of supplies and maintaining the necessary supplies for operations.  Assists with the training of new phlebotomists consistent with their job description duties/responsibilities and the evaluation of competency for all phlebotomists.

  • Ensures that specimens are accessioned and dispensed to the appropriate lab sections. Instructs personnel and monitor accession tasks ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  •  Assists the Laboratory Support Supervisor in the direction of the phlebotomy and clerical Staff consistent with their job descriptions and Laboratory/Hospital initiatives/goals.
  • Assists employees in their specific duties as needed to ensure efficient handling of specimens and patients.
  • Monitors phlebotomy supplies ensuring an adequate inventory.
  • Assists the Laboratory Support Supervisor in the development maintenance and revision to the specimen handling and phlebotomy procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Must possess and maintain a current Phlebotomy license with the State of California.
  • Two years of college with an emphasis on the biological sciences or two years of experience as a phlebotomist or supervisor.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Computer skills
