Job Summary and Responsibilities

This position, under the supervision of a facility director or manager, will learn and complete various tasks related to crafts/trades disciplines related to the maintenance of our facilities and will learn to lead engineering and/or facility management activities including operation and maintenance of hospital physical assets, at medical centers or facilities. The intern will demonstrate practical understanding as well as learn the proper application of maintenance training in areas identified by the leader. Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing work order systems including completion, reporting, and quality-control, analyzing department performance using budgets, CMMS reports, energy reports, evaluating the work of employees, maintaining performance standards and records, planning the work, and assisting with facility projects. Engaging with lessons learned or identifying opportunities for improvement within the facility will be required to provide written reports.

This position may include any combination of the following scope of responsibility:
● Responsible for managing technology systems and data
● Responsible for operations of non-hospital properties (clinics, medical office buildings, etc.)
● Responsible for operational projects

Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to Market Director, Facilities Management Operations within National Real Estate Services and interfaces with the various people and teams across Divisions / Markets / Hospitals, as needed, for Facilities-related initiatives and special projects as assigned. This position may be assigned to a local facility for all or a portion of their assignment.

Essential Functions:

Duties are listed in order of greatest importance. Other responsibilites may be assigned.

  • Assist with the engineering or facilities department, staff and vendors.
  • These responsibilities include but are not limited to managing technology systems and data, maintaining performance standards and records, completing operational projects as assigned by the director and managing the employees and vendors pertaining to projects.
  • Assist with project oversight from conceptual design through construction of one to two facilities projects.
  • Assist financial performance of the department by evaluating expenses and cost containment targets.
  • Assist with Request for Proposals for vendors and contractors on services and construction projects; provide recommendations on service providers after participation and gathering feedback from stakeholders.
  • Maintain current records of all maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain Preventative and Corrective Maintenance completion rate at or above program targets.
  • Support the management of vendor relationship, including communication and coordination.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • Currently enrolled as a junior or higher, or graduated within the past 6 months, from an accredited college/university, earning a degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Interior Design or related field.

  • Familiarity with blueprint reading, building codes, N.F.P.A., O.S.H.A., The Joint Commission EOC requirements, policy and procedure development and implementation.

  • Must understand financial and operational management areas of business.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the area
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, working drawings or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to a variety of analytical support requests.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to prepare, analyze, and present budgets, detailed financial and business case studies.
  • Computer Skills: Google, Google Suite, MS Office, Outlook, and Relational Databases.
  • Working knowledge of codes and standards. These include, but may not be limited to those that regulate the healthcare industry.
  • Operational Excellence by meeting or exceeding performance standards in engineering and facilities management, providing monthly reports to leadership.
  • Continuous Improvement and Innovation through tracking improvements efforts and action plans for employee surveys, value capture, and others.
  • Training and Development Completing management training requirements through Pathways and other LMS programs.
