Job Summary and Responsibilities

Participates in financial analysis tasks of varied nature and depth, including cost accounting, service line reporting and support and various other ad hoc reporting and analytical projects.  Also, responsible for assisting with the budgeting process, budget expense management and reporting, variance/impact analysis, forecasting, and other financial related tasks. Support specific Revenue Cycle functions.

  • Serve as the Finance Department point for assigned service line management teams.  

• Functions and analyze monthly service line financial performance.
• Provide ad-hoc reporting and in-depth financial analysis to support the needs and requests of the hospital Service Line Directors and CFOs, using the Strata and/or McKesson decision support systems and other tools.
• Research trends, variances, and identify potential threats and vulnerabilities to the financial performance of the service lines.
• Make recommendations to Senior Management for action to improve such vulnerabilities and follow through on implementation of recommendations.

  • Maintain the Market’s patient data repository and cost accounting system (McKesson Performance Manager).   Tasks include:

• Work with department managers to develop and review the accuracy of Relative Value Units(RVUs), thus ensuring the appropriate allocation of department costs to services provided, and accurate assignment of costs to patient accounts.
• Perform monthly mapping of department charge codes to the appropriate statistic accounts.
• Performs weekly data integrations into patient data repository for encounter level and cost accounting detail.
• Monitor department costs and assist department managers interpret their financial results.

  • Assist in the annual operating budget process:

• Assist hospital executive teams develop volume assumptions used in the budget process.
• Provide system training to department managers and assist in data input and reporting.

• Provide year-round support to assigned facilities in interpreting financial results and analyzing variances.
• Assists during budget development process by compiling reports, entering budget information, and developing internal communications.

  • Perform Net Present Value (NPV) analyses on capital investment and service line / hospital development proposals, using financial modeling and forecasting techniques to determine the long-term potential for profitability.  
  • Work with the Market CFO to assist in price setting for new services as well as analyzing costs associated with specific services in order to recommend pricing packages for self-pay patients.
  • Researches, gathers and summarizes financial data; identifies potential problems and develops solutions.
  • Able to assist with detailed charge master review with respect to price setting activities.
  • Develops and prepares routine and special Finance and Audit Reports as needed.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data, converting it into information that can be used by management decision making; makes appropriate recommendations.
  • In analyzing financial information:

• Is expected to be able to discern what trends, variances, projections, etc. are important, and to bring that information to the attention of management.

• Able to perform Payer Contract Compliance Audits to identify payers at risk as needed by Management.

  • Supports Revenue Cycle functions by maintaining PCON/PEA legacy software modeling tool.
  • Stays abreast of PIC Modeling Analytics to support Expected Payment review (i.e. Inpatient Rehab), Payer Trending, LBA month end reporting.
  • Assists in reconciling government funding programs (UHRIP, DSH, etc.)
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures; makes recommendations as necessary.
  • Stays abreast of the latest standards and regulations within the scope of this position’s responsibility and stays current with respect to government payer reimbursement methodology changes (i.e. Traditional Medicare/Medicaid/Tricare).
  • Other duties:

• Assist National Tax team in the preparation and filing of annual tax returns and tax payments.
• Assist National Enterprise Net Revenue team and local Financial Services team in the preparation of monthly supporting schedules and proposed journal entries to book appropriate Contractual, Administrative Adjustment, Bad Debt, and Charity reserves.
• Analyze and report net revenue results to market CFO.
• Perform daily reconciliations of data uploads of Business Office transactions to the Crow/RCA tool.
• Prepare and submit annual State community benefits filing.

  • Perform special financial projects of a diverse nature as requested by Management

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree ‐ Accounting, Finance or related field
  • MBA, MHA or other graduate degree and/or CPA preferred.
  • Four (4) years of experience in financial analysis or accounting, preferably in a hospital setting).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with a hospital decision support market (such as Mckesson, Strata, RCA Crowe).
  • Must have strong spreadsheet (i.e. Excel) skills.
  • Ability to learn new computer systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable working with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive financial and operational information.
