The posted compensation range of $23.11 - $34.38 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist and Market Director of Rehabilitation Services, the Occupational Therapist Assistant, assists Occupational Therapist in providing occupational therapy services. Screens, educates, and provides therapeutic intervention for individuals identified with disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities
Position Responsibilities:
- Plans and implements occupational therapy treatment programs according to physician referral, and/or plan of care. Designs programs to meet the patient’s physical, psychological, and age specific needs. Performs tests and measurements of functional status, neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cognitive/perceptual, and sensory /psychological functions.
- Works collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team, other departments and disciplines to assure patients and customer’s needs are met in a timely manner; encourages the active participation of the patient and/or family in goal setting and patient/family training/education.
- Completes all necessary documentation as outlined by departmental policy and documentation review. This includes, but is not limited to, patient care charting, charge entry, completing peer chart and peer reviews, and documenting on daily schedule.
- Coordinates care of patients with other departmental and organizational activities in a manner that fosters a positive professional image consistent with the departmental and organizational goals and mission statement. This includes, but is not limited to, discharge planning, participation in care conferences, interdisciplinary rounds, collaborative practice groups, the student program and community endeavors.
- Promotes and supports positive and professional customer service, while interacting with clients, guests and internal peers and customers.
- Works collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team, other departments and disciplines to assure patients and customer’s needs are met in a timely manner.
- Encourages the active participation of the patient and/or family in goal setting and patient/family training/education.
- Completes all necessary documentation as outlined by departmental policy and documentation review, including but not limited to, patient care charting, charge entry, completing peer chart and peer reviews, and documenting on daily schedule.
- Utilizes available information management systems to support departmental and organizational goals, including but not limited to system wide e-mail, information announcements, policies, education, charge entry, and accessing patient care related information.
- Educates patients regarding the appropriate placement and application of the telemetry monitoring system.
- Assists in maintaining patient’s medical record, to include, but not limited tom compiling new medical records, data entry and verification, and filing.
- Reports equipment malfunctions and ensures that all safety policies are followed concerning malfunctioning equipment.
- Demonstrates tact and professionalism in working and communicating with patients/families, physicians, other members of the rehabilitation team, and other employees of the healthcare system.
- As a member of the Rehabilitation Services Team, ensures that the patient/family is satisfied with the rehabilitation services provided any that any issue that arises is addressed and resolved promptly.
Job Requirements
Education Required
Associates degree from accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
Licensure/Certification Required
Current State Licensure as Occupational Therapist Assistant issued by Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners – OTA (ECPTOTE)
(NBCOT if initial licensure--has COTA designation)
BLS certification (through an approved AHA program)
Preferred
Member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the Texas Occupational Therapy Association (TOTA)
Registered COTA through National Board of Certified Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
Experience Required

2-3 years of professional experience as OTA
