Responsibilities
Position Summary:
As our Manager of Patient Safety and Risk at California Hospital Medical Center, you will oversee the facility Patient Safety Program, including the Patient Safety Plan requirements for the collection, analysis and reporting of events and patient safety data, investigation of events and near misses, and will ensure all accreditation and regulatory requirements for patient safety are fully met.  You will participate in system office initiatives and programs to mitigate identified risks which result in reduced costs, reduced adverse patient outcomes, and safer patient care. You will also coordinate claim team requests and collaborate with other key stakeholders to implement learnings from claims. You will also spearhead the the coordination of all legal documents related to hospital liability.

Qualifications
Education and Experience: 
  • Bachelor's degree or five (5) years of related job or industry experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of risk management, patient safety and/or other related professional experience and a minimum of two (2) years of experience managing/supervising employees and/or vendors.

Special Skills and Training: 

  • Experience with the event reporting process, root cause analyses, and event investigation/review.
  • Experience with patient compliant/grievance investigations and prompt resolution.
  • Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
  • Familiar with all legal documents related to hospital liability, including management of subpoenas, Summaries and Complaints and other related activities.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local healthcare related laws and regulations; ability to comply with these in healthcare practices and activities.
  • Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
  • Experience with risk and the implementation of HPI and cause analysis.
  • Strong professional, organizational and interpersonal skills for working with teams, physicians, committees and senior management.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), presentation style, including the ability to concisely present data to leaders, clinicians and staff at all levels of the organization.
