Emergency Room Technician
The posted compensation range of $17.00 - $20.63 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
As an Emergency Room Tech, you will support safe, cost-efficient patient care in the Emergency Department, performing delegated functions from the RN or Physician.
Every day you will conduct selected diagnostics and procedures, assist with patient transport and lifting, and provide general clerical and cleaning support to the unit.
To be successful in this role you will effectively execute delegated tasks, support unit operations, and contribute to a safe and efficient environment.
- Provides direct patient care as delegated by the RN and Medical Staff. Monitors and records vital signs, observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional condition and reports any changes to the nursing or medical staff.
- Provides indirect patient care. Escorting patient to the exam room. Performs and documents general therapeutic/diagnostic measures. Acts as transporter. Assists with updating the Emergency Department Tracking Board/Care Manager (EDTB).
- Acts as unit clerk; Utilizes hospital information systems according to the hospital policy. Discharges patients and enters charges for patients in a timely matter. Utilizes the EDTB to improve patient flow. Performs order data entry as assigned by the nurse or physician. Discharges patients from the system.
- Communicates with patients, family, physicians, other departments, unit personnel, and peers in an accurate, courteous and professional manner.
- Demonstrates a commitment to patients, nursing staff, and Emergency Department in accordance with the team performance expectations
- Acts as transport. Keeps patient environment safe and clean, performs comfort rounds, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safety precautions
High school diploma GED Metropolitan Test or equivalent
One of the following must be met:
EMT and NREMT
Emergency Room Tech or Certified Nursing Assistant in acute care setting
Evidence of the fundamentals of nursing and one semester of clinical practice in an RN school
A minimum of 6 months of direct patient care in an acute care environment within the last 24 months.
