The posted compensation range of $19.18 - $25.04 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Responsibilities
The Lab Assistant performs essential, non-technical support functions within the laboratory, ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of patient specimens. This role is vital to the smooth operation of our lab and directly supports our Medical Technologists and Technicians.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Specimen Collection:Accurately collecting blood samples (phlebotomy) from patients of all ages, following established protocols and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Specimen Processing:Receiving, labeling, and preparing specimens for testing, including centrifugation and aliquoting.
- Data Entry:Accurately entering patient and specimen information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Equipment Maintenance:Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment as directed.
- Inventory Management:Monitoring and stocking laboratory supplies, ensuring adequate levels are maintained.
- Clerical Duties:Answering phones, directing calls, and assisting with general administrative tasks within the lab.
- Quality Control:Adhering to all laboratory policies and procedures, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and demonstrating a commitment to quality and patient safety.
- Communication:Effectively communicating with medical staff, patients, and fellow team members.
Qualifications
- Education:High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience:Previous healthcare experience is a plus, but not required. We are willing to train candidates with a strong work ethic and a desire to learn. Phlebotomy experience is beneficial.
- Skills:
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely and adhere to strict safety protocols.
- Empathy and compassion for patients.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
