Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

Organizes and maintains a cancer patient data system which conforms to ACOS standards and meets the needs of users of the Kentucky Cancer Program.  

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Assists in cancer registry operations
  2. Performs data entry
  3. Work distribution and examine medical and pathology records to determine patient eligibility for the cancer registry database according to established guidelines.
  4. Performs abstracting activities by efficiently and accurately abstracting cancer registry data from the medical record.
  5. Collects, calculates, analyzes, interprets and presents numerical data related to cancer occurrence, case management and outcome measures
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Associates of Applied Science (AAS) or equivalent education as required to sit for certification

  • Experience in coding or transcription

Required Licensure and Certifications

CTR - within 24 months

ODS-C Oncology Data Specialist Certification or enrolled in program. 

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of Cancer Registry software systems.
