Communications Operator
The posted compensation range of $15.00 - $21.47 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Responsibilities
Job Summary / Purpose
Provides efficient hospital communications through the operation of the hospital switchboard and paging system.
Essential Functions
- Performs all duties related to switchboard activity, i.e. completing incoming calls, paging physicians and hospital personnel, and forwarding messages. Authorizes long distance telephone calls in accordance with established procedures.
- Responds quickly and accurately to incoming emergency signals and requests for announcing Hospital distress codes. Responsible for knowing appropriate procedures related to emergency situations.
- Responsible for making necessary announcements daily in accordance with standard procedures.
- Maintains current “on call” listing and places calls to locate teams needed for emergencies.
- Responsible for distribution of replacement pagers and batteries and contacting appropriate parties concerning pager malfunctions.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Graduate or High School GED required.
Work in a hospital setting preferred.
Six months to one year switchboard operator experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training
Must have great listening and communication skills.
Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and organizational policies.
