The posted compensation range of $31.50 - $45.68 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Job Details
As our 4A Medical Surgical Charge Nurse at CHI Saint Joseph Health, you'll assist a department of frontline nurses caring for patients. Your previous experience in acute care adds tremendous value to our nursing team and every interaction is an opportunity to improve your understanding of a patient's needs, the needs of your nursing team, and the needs of your unit. You'll advocate for your fellow nurses as you support them in reaching their full potential.
Your success in this role comes from being accountable, calm and confident. You're an excellent communicator in 1:1 interactions and in front of groups. You’ll be a trusted educator and resource for your team, taking control of situations before they escalate and being comfortable holding tough conversations.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Ability to serve as leader and teammate
- Ensure your teammates and department are positioned to deliver the best care possible to our patients
- High level of engagement with the floor- visibly connecting with nurses, patients, and families
- Mentor team members and share your knowledge and confidence
- Collaborate with a variety of other healthcare professionals such as social work, care coordination, physical therapy, occupational therapy, lab, respiratory therapy, and imaging

Responsibilities
This position is accountable for the daily patient care operations of the assigned department, working under the direction of the Nurse Manager on assigned shifts. Responsible for daily patient care assignments, maintaining clinical standards of care, maintaining labor productivity and supervision of the patient care environment; supporting the care team. Supports the activities of the Nurse Manager. Maintains positive inter- and intra-departmental relationships. Directs patient throughput activities in the assigned unit. Maintains evidence-based nursing practices to achieve desirable patient outcomes in accordance with the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Provides direct supervision of personnel practicing on Nursing Units, makes patient care assignments, evaluates assignments, facilitates patient throughout, and directly observes staff performance on assigned shift.
- Proactively matches existing resources seeking ways to provide patient care that supports staff and maintains a therapeutic environment.
- Monitors productivity and assures that staffing and resources are aligned with patient care needs.
- Communicates personnel related concerns to Unit Manager.
- Uses a logical, systematic approach to problems and problem-solving.
- Facilitates Patient Experience best practices on the unit (hourly rounding, etc.)
- Maintains Unit Professional standards. Holds staff accountable for behaviors and attitudes.
- Maintains confidentiality of information of the department. Assists in audits and data collection as requested.
- Contributes to the efficient operation of the department.
- Performs direct patient care and accepts an assigned group of patients as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) from an accredited school of nursing.
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Current RN license in the State of Kentucky
- Basic Life Support (BLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA) within 3 months of hire
PREFERRED Qualifications
- 2 years RN experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
