Provides Leadership, direction and focus for nursing and clinical education throughout a designated Market. Strives to maintain consistent levels of professional practice which meet or exceed standards of excellence. Under the leadership of the Region Director of Education, Practice and research and in collaboration with the Market Chief Nurse and other hospital nursing leadership.

Provides oversight of evidence based practice and the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of activities for nursing designed to support the National Nursing Strategy, regional initiatives and goals and objectives that increases the clinical, leadership and management competency of clinical teams. Enhances the outcomes in research and clinical competency, education and evidence based practice. Supports Magnet and or Pathway designation within the market; fosters a culture of clinical excellence.

Provides leadership for an assigned Education in a Market consisting of mulitiple Hospitals.

Supervisor Responsibility:  Facility Leader for Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center; all Directors/Managers/Leads of Education or Simulation and associated titles in a Market; Nurse Residency Coordinators; if no leader all educators/residency coordinators and associated titles.

Responsibilities

1. Contributes to quality, cost effective patient care through programs designed to meet learning needs to achieve desired patient outcomes, to increase clinical, leadership, and managerial competency, to promote error reduction, and enhance professional development.

2. Implements consistent practices that promote lifelong learning, professional development and consistency in the onboarding and ongoing education of the workforce in the assigned hospital and Market.

3.  Guides and mentors others in the interpretation of research and evidence based practice publications; Conducts, supports and/or participates in research projects to promote a knowledge base for nursing and advanced practice.

4.  Promotes shared leadership through the active participation in activities to achieve the Nursing strategic goals, effective communication, and the resolution of problems.

5. Supports the National Nurse Residency programs in the hospital and Market; provides insight into the role expectations for the graduate nurses with academic partners; serves as a liaison to local schools of nursing and facilitates placement of students to achieve curriculum requirements.

6. Develops, integrates, and implements goals of the health system, region and Markets/Hospital.

7. Serves as a member of the nursing, hospital, market and region/system leadership teams.

8. Represents the Market on a local, state, national and international level as needed.

9. Manages departmental budgets and Market as indicated to assure resources are available to achieve stated goals.

10.  Recruits, selects, and manages personnel in the hospital and Markets.

11. Supports a model that aligns the most efficient and effective resources for staff at the bedside.

12. Develops and implements programs that support the achievement of clinical outcomes.

13. Collaborates with nursing schools and other workforce development initiatives to develop creative approaches to integrate academic and organizational education; develops and implements a process to centralize student placements for the market.

14. Develops innovative methods to provide and enhance educational programs / offerings leveraging technology to increase access.

15. Provide oversight to the continuing education accreditation program.

16. Supports and participates in organizational initiatives as needed or assigned.


Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, MBA, MHA or related  field
  • Three years of general nursing experience; Five years in a leadership role having a significant business impact

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • DNP / PHD Preferred

Required License and Certification:

  • Nursing specialty certification within six months; achieve within one year
  • Registered Nurse (RN:TX)

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Training:

  • Effective communication skills, collaboration, and inclusive
  • Knowledgeable of adult learning theory
  • Leadership experience within an Academic Medical Center
  • Knowledgeable of teaching principles, methods, and mode
  • Able to work well with others
