Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Trauma Registrar is responsible for data collection both abstracting and analyzing data entry and data completion of the trauma patient population. He/she is also responsible for data submission/distribution/report generation to/for the appropriate parties within the designated time frame. This position assists with projects under the direction of the Trauma Program Director as indicated. The position reports to the Trauma Program Director.


Qualifications

Minimum:

  • At least one year recent coding experience or 2 years in a clinical setting in a support role.

  • Medical terminology is essential.
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Proficiency in utilizing computers is essential.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills strong communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize requests and assignments.
  • Self-directed with initiative to function independently as needed.
  • Computer skills in word processing; (word excel etc.) And data management.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computers including word processing spread sheets graphics messaging (e-mail) data base management and report writers.
  • Extensive knowledge of registry maintenance and related regulations.
  • ATS Trauma Registrar course within 6 months of hire.
  • Completion of AAAM Trauma Coding course within 6 months of hire.
  • Certified Specialist Trauma Registry (CSTR) certification is required within 2 years of hire to be tracked at the local level.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Trauma experience is highly recommended. Position with strong emphasis on data integrity and analysis
  • Previous Registry/Report Writing experience
  • Associate's Degree
  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS)
  • AIS/ISS ICD-9/ICD-10 coding familiarity is highly recommended
