Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Phlebotomist, you will competently collect blood and other patient specimens for diagnostic testing, ensuring comfort and safety.

Every day you will identify patients, explain procedures, proficiently perform venipunctures, and accurately label/prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, adhering to safety protocols.

To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills for accurate diagnostics and patient satisfaction.

  • Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures using PPID and PAID within Phlebotomy Dashboard, following two identifiers for patient identification at all times.
  • Specimen handling, centrifuges blood and body fluid samples, delivers specimens to appropriate departments and uses specimen logs as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of specimen requirements, including unusual specimens, utilizing reference laboratory's test menus and handling procedures.
  • Ensures AM lab work is drawn and received in the laboratory by 6:00am. Successfully collects blood at a rate of one collection per 5-10 minutes. Expectation at start of shift is first draw collected within 15 minutes.
  • Collects blood cultures using appropriate aseptic technique while maintaining the national standard of contamination of less than 3 percent. Priorities blood culture collection based on sepsis protocol.
  • Uses the laboratory information system to enter patient information, order tests and problem solve in accordance within job duties. Document appropriately into the notes and or comment fields all changes that modifies the orders.

  • Certified Phlebotomist: CA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory terminology, aseptic technique, laboratory tests, specimen handling and blood collection techniques. Computer skills, including keyboarding
