Job Summary and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Patient Support & Care: Provides direct support and assistance with essential daily care, including accurate documentation in patient charts, facilitating activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, feeding, ambulation), conducting specimen collection, and monitoring vital signs. Ensures patient well-being, comfort, and safety through adherence to Registered Nurse directives.
- Patient Mobility & Transport: Facilitates efficient patient movement by safely transporting patients within the hospital, assisting with admissions and discharges, and skillfully repositioning for comfort and care.
- Patient Communication & Response: Serves as a primary point of contact for patient needs, promptly responding to call lights and either fulfilling requests within scope of practice or efficiently escalating concerns to the nursing staff.
- Administrative & Clerical Support: Provides comprehensive administrative and clerical support using diverse communication and office technologies (e.g., phone, paging, EHR, pneumatic tube). Maintains meticulous organization and integrity of patient medical charts, including assembly, integration of documentation, and proper routing.
- Order Entry & Coordination: Executes precise order entry and coordination, accurately transcribing physician orders to Medication Administration Records, inputting them into the electronic health record (EHR), and proficiently scheduling diagnostic tests, therapies, and appointments. Proactively communicates urgent orders and ensures complete RN sign-off.
- Central Monitoring & Surveillance: Manages critical central monitoring station operations, ensuring continuous patient surveillance and rapid response. This includes admitting/discharging patients, assigning arrhythmia monitoring, collaborating with RNs on alarm management, generating and ensuring review of critical strip recordings, troubleshooting monitor malfunctions, and expeditiously paging nursing staff for critical events.
- Equipment & Supply Readiness: Ensures optimal functionality and readiness of specialized medical equipment through diligent cleaning and maintenance. Manages the secure reception and organized distribution of medication deliveries. Systematically restocks all assigned patient rooms and designated unit areas to ensure continuous availability of supplies.
- Unit Resource Management: Proactively monitors the operational efficiency of all unit systems and resources, promptly reporting any maintenance requirements or supply shortages to the Unit Director.
Job Requirements
Licenses & Certifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age as required by state
- Nurse Assistants must be on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry
- BLS (Basic Life Support) from the American Heart Association upon hire
