Job Summary and Responsibilities
As a Surgical Tech, you will function as an integral team member across all phases of the surgical procedure. Your role is vital for seamless transitions and comprehensive patient care.
Every day you will collaborate with the surgical team, meticulously preparing the operating room, assisting the surgeon, and managing instruments and supplies. You will maintain a sterile field and anticipate team needs for efficiency and patient safety.
To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective performance under pressure. Your commitment to teamwork and sterile technique will be paramount for safe and successful surgical outcomes.
- Collaborates with the Registered Nurse and other members of the surgical team in planning intra-operative care of the patient.
- Performs scrub functions for all Specialty Service Line procedures as well as major or minor specialty cases.
- Utilizes physician preference lists and nursing care plans in preparation for specific operative procedures. Demonstrates competence in use of the computer to generate case cart pick lists and physician preference lists. Updates physician preference lists as necessary.
- Demonstrates safe practice and knowledge of safety principles for the following: Standard precautions Electro-surgical safety Radiation safety Code Blue Protocol - adult and pediatric Malignant Hyperthermia Fire in the Operating Room OR Disaster Procedure Positioning patients intra-operatively. Understands the relationship between anatomy and physiology and positioning and recognizes potential safety hazards to the patient. Utilizes appropriate positioning equipment.
- Uses safe methods of identification, handling, and disposition of patient specimens according to established department policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of principles of aseptic technique and sterilization. Demonstrates competence in operation of the following: Decontamination unit Steam autoclave Chemical sterilization (Steris unit) Demonstrates knowledge of correct procedure for testing and documenting of results for sterilization equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of the cleaning, care, handling and sterilization of all types of surgical instruments. Accepts assignment to instrument room.
Job Requirements
- Surgical Technician Training Course Graduate and 1 year in acute care/stand alone ambulatory surgery center. Focus on Ortho, Laparoscopic procedures, vascular, ophthalmology.
- Certified Surgical Technologist required
- Basic Life Support - CPR
