Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Retail Pharmacist, you will work closely with the pharmacy manager to deliver effective, efficient, and accurate retail pharmaceutical care to patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff, helping the department meet its financial and customer service goals.

Every day you will verify prescriptions for accuracy and safety, counsel patients on proper medication use, collaborate with providers to resolve questions, oversee pharmacy technicians, manage inventory, and ensure compliance with pharmacy laws and regulations, all while creating a welcoming, efficient experience at the pharmacy counter.

To be successful in this role, you will need strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment with patient safety and customer satisfaction always top of mind.

  • Facilitates accurate, safe, efficient, and timely dispensing of prescription and OTC medications in accordance with company, department, and state/federal regulations, including complete order processing (data entry, verification, drug utilization review, dosing/interaction checks, filling, labeling, and staging for delivery)
  • Counsels and educates patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers on drug/OTC information in accordance with state law, and oversees the workflow of pharmacy ancillary staff
  • Consults with insurance companies to obtain prescription authorizations, follows up with providers on clarifications, handles customer service issues, and answers phones and register operations courteously and in accordance with cash handling policies
  • Works collaboratively with pharmacy staff to meet operational, financial, and customer service goals, including inventory management and reduced wait times, and participates in department quality programs with documented meeting attendance and reports
  • Maintains pharmacy surfaces, shelving, equipment, and flooring clean and well organized, and is responsible for opening/closing the pharmacy and shift-change duties
  • Maintains current knowledge of pharmacy best practices, information technology, and cultural competence in patient care; performs other duties such as immunizations, compounding, bedside delivery with medication consultation, collaborative practice agreements, and MTM participation
Job Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited school of pharmacy
  • Pharmacist License (WA)
  • Basic Life Support – CPR (BLS-CPR)

Preferred

  • PharmD from an accredited school of pharmacy
  • One (1) year of work experience in a retail pharmacy setting
