Job Summary and Responsibilities
The System Director, IT Network Security provides strategic leadership and manages the network security infrastructure, including firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, and security events, to mitigate risks and maintain a secure and reliable environment. This role will shape the direction of network security, driving continuous improvement in security posture through the implementation of robust security policies, procedures, and standards.
The Director, reporting to the System VP of Infrastructure Network and Voice, will manage a team of employees and outsourced partners, oversee budgets, provide technical guidance, and drive team performance to optimize the organization's service delivery.
The Director will work with peers and colleagues from all areas of IT and the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Provide strategic direction and influence to an organization of ~40-50 employees and outsource partners, managing 5-8 direct reports, while championing a team culture that fosters innovation and high performance to drive results, and upholding CommonSpirit Culture values..
- Define and execute a comprehensive network security strategy, aligned with business objectives and industry best practices, to strategically lead Network Security through a transformative evolution to next-generation capabilities.
- Establish and enforce robust security measures to protect data and infrastructure, ensure compliance with industry regulations, and maintain rigorous compliance standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in resource management practices, ensuring the environment is properly sized to minimize its environmental footprint and eliminating waste to optimize the utilization of assets and resources, contributing to a more sustainable and cost-effective operation.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to implement solutions efficiently and effectively.
- Effectively allocate resources and prioritize project demand and workload for the team to consistently meet business timelines.
- Establish and maintain open communication channels with key vendor contacts to ensure timely access to information regarding product updates and industry best practices.

Job Requirements
- Bachelors or equivalent experience in a computer science, software engineering or related field
- 10-15+ years of proven and progressive experience in IT including a minimum of 7+ years of hands-on experience working with technical infrastructure, Network, or IT security teams
- 7+ years of technical leadership in a larger enterprise or professional services company - Preferred
- Extensive experience in designing, implementing, and managing network security infrastructure, including network segmentation, firewall configuration (Palo, Cisco ASA, Fortinet), web proxy deployment, internet gateway security, and load balancers.
- Deep understanding of network traffic inspection technologies and their application in identifying and responding to security incidents. Proficient in denial-of-service mitigation techniques to protect against a wide range of threats.
- Strong analytical, research, problem solving, and evaluative thinking skills
- Possess strong communication skills, effectively manages complex environments, and leads with a focus on empowering team members to perform efficiently.
