The System Vice President, Ambulatory Surgery Center (VP, ASC) leads, directs, and is responsible for the operational strategy and overall performance of the Organization's ASC portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring the financial, clinical, and operational performance of all ASC sites, fostering a high-performance culture of patient care, and maintaining regulatory compliance. The VP, ASC will work closely with executive leadership, clinical teams, and site managers to optimize the patient experience, streamline operations, drive financial performance, and improve clinical outcomes across all ASC locations.


Responsibilities

Essential Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct the operational strategy and overall performance of the Organization's ASC portfolio.
  • Responsible for operational strategy and overall performance of all ASCs.
  • Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and best practices that ensure consistent and high-quality care across all ASCs.
  • Plan and implement strategic initiatives across the ASCs to align with the goals and vision of the Organization.
  • Drive strategic growth initiatives, including new service offerings, site expansion, and partnership opportunities.
  • Analyze financial performance of ASC operations, identifying opportunities to increase revenue, reduce costs, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing leadership team across the ASC network by attracting, developing, and retaining top talent.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in operational efficiency, safety, and patient satisfaction.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance patient safety, clinical quality, and infection control practices across the ASC network.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational effectiveness, patient satisfaction, and financial performance, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure all ASC sites meet or exceed regulatory standards, including Joint Commission accreditation, OSHA, CMS, and state-specific regulations.
  • Ensure a consistent, high-quality patient experience by fostering a culture of respect, communication, and empathy across all sites.
  • Lead regular communication and collaboration with senior leadership, including providing operational updates, performance reviews, and strategic recommendations.
  • Build strong relationships with surgeons, physicians, and healthcare providers to promote the ASCs’ services.
  • Build a culture within areas of direct responsibility to set and implement organizational goals that support the mission and values of CommonSpirit Health. 
  • Manage staff that report up to the position; periodically provide ELT insights and strategic updates at team meetings; support CommonSpirit’s Culture and Employee Engagement initiatives.
  • Serve on internal management boards and committees, as requested. 
  • Responsible for remaining knowledgeable on Healthcare Industry's trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations and trendsetters; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.


Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field, and/or additional job-related experience in lieu of the degree. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in perioperative setting or procedural oriented setting, ambulatory surgery center operations, or related healthcare management.
  • Preferred: Ambulatory Surgical Center or hospital outpatient surgical center experience with a broad array of surgical specialty services, Anesthesia and endoscopy experience.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:

  • Strong knowledge of ASC regulations, including CMS, HIPAA, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Strong understanding of outpatient surgical procedures and industry trends.
  • Experience growing and scaling an innovative service-oriented business model. Operational and strategic experience.
  • Strong knowledge of fiscal management and responsibility, business finance, capital funding, contracts, partnerships, and corporate governance. Sound understanding of risk management.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience with establishing and utilizing KPI’s.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of a not-for-profit health system.
