Summary

The Pharmacy Patient Medication Assistance Liaison is responsible for the respective Region’s or System’s Medication Assistance Programs. The incumbent applies knowledge of pharmaceuticals, insurance plans, social security benefits, manufacturers’ pharmaceutical assistance programs (PAP),  low income subsidies, Medicare/Medicaid, community social services, Cover Rx, and disease-specific grant opportunities to help meet the needs of patients in need. The position coordinates directly with patients, their families, providers, and agencies. This position is eligible to work in a hybrid capacity (remote and on-site), depending on Region needs and requirements. The incumbent would be required to live within the Region they serve and be on-site when required by their manager. 

              Key Job Responsibilities

  • Research program availability and patient requirements to optimize patient access to programs such as Pharmaceutical Assistance programs (PAP), bulk replacement programs, any local grant funding, assistance grants, etc.  
  • Coordinate patient care by working closely with physicians, case managers, business personnel, nurse practitioners, clinic personnel, etc.
  • Effectively manage a patient tracking database to track patient assistance applications, approvals, receipt of medication, dispensing, billing, and compliance. Manage external agreements, tracking, and billing (i.e. Ryan White, Project Access, IAP, etc.)
  • Oversee the patient assistance process and maintain records of program assistance, compile and submit financial reports to committees, and perform required audits 
  • Coordinate implementation of new patient assistance programs, including submission of required applications, development of policies and procedures, and affiliation agreements/contracts.
  • Serve as a consultant to other facilities to implement patient assistance programs 
  • Educate patient assistance technicians, case managers, social workers, nurses, physicians, medical office staff, and business office staff of available programs, and provide feedback regarding compliance with referrals, formulary, and documentation.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of pharmaceutical related experience or 5 years of pharmacy technician experience
  • Registered Pharmacy Tech in one of the following states: AZ, IA, MN, ND, NE, or NV
  • Excellent computer and database skills; highly competent in Google sheets and other cloud based tools
  • Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Part D
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to the pharmacy and nursing professions.   
  • High level of initiative, flexibility, time management, cooperation, and exceptional attention to detail.
