Job Summary / Purpose

The Principal Epic Application Analyst creates or enhances applications that meet the needs of end-users and achieve business goals by identifying opportunities for improvement, making recommendations, then designing and implementing solutions. The Principal Epic Application Analyst works on several solutions at a time that tend to be of high complexity.  They provide technical guidance and mentoring to application analyst teams and oversee the application analysts aspects of all projects. This includes assisting with workload distribution, support prioritization, and productivity\metric monitoring. Reviews and analyzes systems including testing and documenting Epic applications. The Principal role will operate as a front-line organizational liaison connecting IT, facilities, and other CommonSpirit operational groups to assist with developing and implementing technical solutions to increase the efficacy of the Epic system. The Principal role understands the strategic direction of both IT and CommonSpirit Health and work closely with other Principals to ensure consistency of support for enterprise initiatives.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Assists in day-to-day planning, operations, and problem-solving to aid the team in obtaining defined Key Performance Indicators and service levels.
  • Helps in developing the team to ensure consistency in overall productivity and performance. Monitors individual performance and suggests areas for additional professional development as necessary.
  • Organizes planning of resources inclusive of allocation and prioritization of workload. Assists in defining work deadlines and coordinates completion of activities.
  • Identifies new opportunities for process, system, and staff improvements. Encourages critical problem solving and independent thinking amongst the team.
  • Operates as a change agent for the team by generating excitement for new initiatives and projects.
  • Provides continual mentorship of staff in areas of technical and professional development.
  • Utilizes project management standards and tools to lead IT projects by setting direction, coordinating activities across varied organizational functions, evaluating progress towards objectives, and implementing mitigation plans if progress and\or scope become a risk.
  • Communicates status of projects, optimizations, upgrades between staff, management, and stakeholders as necessary.
  • Participates in application discovery, build, documentation, training, and testing as needed.
  • Conducts periodic auditing of system build and build documentation to ensure consistency of production support.
  • On-call coverage (after business hours and weekends) is sometimes required, on a rotational basis or as needed, if circumstances warrant.
  • Some travel (both locally and overnight) may be required.


Qualifications
  • 4 years of equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
  • 5 years working with systems analysis programming/design, including 4 years within Epic platform.
  • Knowledge of Epic and IT best practices for the full Epic life cycle, including configuration standards, change control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Demonstrated technical and analytic competency to research and troubleshoot in Epic;
  • EPIC certification for the area in which you support (in primary application) is required or required within 4 months of employment. 
  • Ongoing maintenance of Epic certification(s) required.
  • 7 years of additional relevant experience: application support, implementation or development experience with applications in a hospital or medical related industry is required.
  • Proven ability to effectively liaison between numerous IT and operational parties to address enterprise needs and efficiently move initiatives forward.
