Overview

As our Environmental Services Technician at CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson,  you’ll keep our patient rooms and all areas of the hospital clean and sanitized to protect everyone from potential illness or injury due to infectious diseases or other hazards.

You’ll succeed in this job if you are thorough and committed to safety. Not only will you perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting, you will also use specialized equipment and techniques to further sanitize this facility. 

You must learn and adhere to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects. You will learn about and safely use disinfecting chemicals and learn techniques and procedures for cleaning certain specialized rooms or pieces of equipment. You may also refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, tissue holders, and other supplies, as well as deliver clean linens to patient rooms.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains assigned areas in a clean, neat and orderly manner that includes performing the following daily cleaning functions throughout the facility:
    • Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors  
    • Disinfecting furniture and equipment (I.e. beds, mattresses, walls, windows and window sills, TV’s and TV remotes, door handles, blinds, etc.)
    • Empties and disinfects wastebaskets; transports waste to disposal area
    • Disinfects bathrooms and maintains appropriate bathroom supplies
    • Special cleaning projects as needed
  • Ensures supply rooms are stocked and organized.
  • Ensures assigned areas are cleaned in a timely fashion.
  • Respond to service calls and pages in timely fashion.
  • Carries the Service Pager if assigned.
  • Operate and maintain all floor cleaning/finishing equipment to include, but not limited to, floor buffers, water extraction machines and carpet cleaning equipment, etc., as needed.

Qualifications

Preferred Education and Experience

  • EVS Technician or Janitor experience in a medical facility preferred.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training

  • Must be able to read and write English Language and the ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Must have knowledge of basic cleaning principles/methods and products and the ability to identify and follow directions for products used
  • Must be dependable and motivated to complete duties without constant supervision
