Overview

Work in the heart of #humankindess at CHI St. Alexius Health Devils Lake as a PRN CNA working in our Med Surg unit. You'll enjoy working casual as needed. 

The Certified Nursing Assistant contributes to positive patient experiences by performing nursing care tasks under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical nurse, facilitating communication, and providing general clerical and administrative assistance to the unit. This position supports the mission, vision, and core values of CHI St. Alexius Health Devils Lake.

You'll thrive in this role by assisting with exceptional care for patients of all ages (neonates/infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics) with activities of daily living.

Our hospital has been committed to providing patients quality medical treatment in the Lake Region area and surrounding communities since 1902.


Responsibilities
  • Provides basic nursing care within scope of practice and according to age specific needs. -bathing, hygiene, feeding, elimination needs, and patient activities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care.
  • Performs assigned nursing data collection and reports any irregularities to appropriate nursing personal in timely manner vital signs, weights, intake and output, and glucose readings.
  • Participates in implementation of care plan according to individual patient needs; distributes water glasses, meal trays and snacks in a timely manner, collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens following correct procedure.
  • Assists designated personnel with procedures, treatments or examinations as required.
  • Uses equipment properly and safely, reports malfunctions appropriately scales-infant, standing, chair, wheelchair, bed scale, B/P recording devices with pulse oximeters, tympanic thermometers, Hoyer lift, gait belt, restraints, lead application for telemetry unit.
  • Responds to patient call lights in a timely manner.
  • Is knowledgeable of and assists in maintaining floor stock supplies and assists to maintain cleanliness of the unit and patient rooms.
  • Performs all assigned duties and responsibilities in timely manner and in compliance with standards of care, standards of practice, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as situation warrants under direction of supervisor.
  • Assists in OB unit with cleaning of instruments, supplies, and equipment (isolettes) post procedures.
  • Assists with basic nursing care postpartum mother and infant under direction and supervision of OB nurse.

Qualifications
  • North Dakota Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). 
  • American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS). 

Preferred: 

  • Previous healthcare experience is desired.
  • Computer experience.
