Overview

At CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs patients are at the heart of our care. Our campus is designed to heal the body mind and spirit of every person in a more comfortable less stressful hospital environment. Our full range of medical services include a new pavilion featuring enhancements in heart and vascular care surgery maternity cancer care and diagnostic imaging.

This position contributes to the mission and vision of CHI Health, Midwest Division CommonSpirit Health.  This manager provides strategic direction, program development and day-to-day operations management of Volunteer Services, Guest Services and Community Benefit.  Additionally, the incumbent provides expert consultation for community-hospital integration efforts to the Senior Leadership Teams at their location(s).


Responsibilities

Manager Volunteer Services

Location: Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs, IA

  1. Manages all operational and fiscal activities for Volunteer Services, Gift Shop, Guest Services and grants.
  2. Develops effective and innovative recruiting, placement, and recognition strategies to ensure an adequate cohort of volunteers is available to staff new and existing service areas.
  3. Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources to develop new proposals and initiatives promoting volunteer and guest service development.  Leads the development, integration, and execution of successful, innovative programs for staff and volunteers.
  4. Uses established and best practice methods to select, orient and on-board new employees and volunteers. Supervises paid staff and volunteers, conducts performance reviews and initiates disciplinary action as appropriate. 
  5. Monitors and analyzes program development and implementation.  Reviews relevant documents and reports. Identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions.  Works collaboratively with relevant parties to solve problems, identify solutions and track follow-up actions.
  6. Serves as an effective leader, communicator and educator.  Creates developmental opportunities for direct reports by establishing goals, coaching and mentoring.
  7. Responsible for leading communication efforts to promote positive working relationships between Volunteer and Guest Services and campus departments, service lines and the community.
  8. Undertakes community outreach activities and develops a framework for coordination of campus-community outreach programs.  Maintains and initiates affiliations with community organizations, businesses and schools.  Participates in local, state and national health care organizations.  Serves in non-profit boards and civic groups to address health care delivery and community health needs.
  9. Provides expert consultation for community outreach, community-hospital integrations, and volunteer and guest services as requested by any member of senior management.
  10. Develops departmental and hospital policy based on review and analysis of issues, trends and best practices.  Responsible for ensuring that department activities are in compliance with all governmental and regulatory standards and requirements. 
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or 3 years leadership experience
