Pharmacy postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The goal of the PGY1 pharmacy residency is to enable pharmacy graduates to gain additional knowledge
and experience beyond that of the traditional academic setting, intern pharmacy clerkships and general hospital practice. PGY1 pharmacy residents will advance professional responsibility, be prepared to train and teach future pharmacy providers, learn to promote their own professional growth and maturity, and develop leadership practice skills they can apply to their chosen area of the pharmacy profession. The PGY1 pharmacy residency program is designed to meet the accreditation standards of the American Society of Health Care Pharmacists (ASHP). The PGY1 resident participates in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives to improve pharmaceutical services and standards of patient care.
