Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Certified Ophthalmology Assistant (COA), you will provide essential clinical and administrative support to Ophthalmologists and Optometrists, optimizing practice operations and delivering direct, high-quality patient care.

Every day you will perform direct patient care, conduct ocular testing, assist with in-office procedures, administer medications, and meticulously document patient information, all within your scope of practice.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate proficiency in ocular testing and medication administration, maintain accurate records, and efficiently support both the clinical and administrative functions of the practice.

  • Consistently makes eye contact and smiles.
  • Demonstrates active listening with a positive can do attitude.
  • Consistently respectful, concerned, and shows empathy.
  • Uses scripted greetings. "Thank you for choosing Dignity Health Medical Foundation this is (your name) how can I help you"
  • Uses scripted closing at every interaction. "Is there anything else I can do for you" Over the phone and as patients leave the clinic.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School GED general studies or
  • High School Graduate general studies and
  • 1 year working in an optometry or ophthalmology practice required. and
  • Satisfactory completion of a formal certified ophthalmic technician program pursuant to the Division of Allied Health Professions or military training that is equivalent to an accredited certified ophthalmic technician program (determination by Dignity Health Medical Foundation HR department in conjunction with the State Division of Allied Health Professions.) and
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, upon hire or
  • Certified Opthalmic Technician, upon hire and
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire


Preferred

  • Experience with multi-line phones/ACD phones
