Responsibilities
The Physical Therapy Technician works under the direct personal supervision and direction of the Physical Therapist and/or Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist and/or Occupational Therapy Assistant, and/or Speech Language Pathologist in the acute care setting and under direct supervision in the outpatient setting. The Technician will assist the Therapist or Therapist Assistant in the delivery of physical rehabilitation treatments utilizing skills as proven competent by the Technician Skills Competency Checklist. The technician will also assist office staff with basic clerical duties including but not limited to filing, answering phones, patient intake, and patient scheduling. The technician maintains personal and departmental professional competence, and maintains a “customer orientation” awareness while interacting with patient, families, and other professionals.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Physical Therapy Services and Patient Care Activities: consistent good verbal skills with co-workers, hospital staff, physicians, patients, and family including greeting quickly and professionally; providing assistance to the therapists/assistants in patient treatment and monitoring patients during treatment relaying any change in patient status immediately to the therapist; participates in maintaining treatment areas and equipment by completing assigned cleaning activities and monitoring and cleaning all treatment areas as time allows; assists in maintaining department supplies and informing department office lead of supply needs; maintains the department linen supply by notifying the laundry needs and distributing to the treatment areas (outpatient); handles and disposes of soiled linens according to hospital procedures; cleans all patient care equipment between patient use.
- Demonstrates commitment to professional behavior by: successfully completing annual certification requirements, attending mandatory in-services and online learning timely, assessing learning needs of technical staff and orients personnel as need arises, providing and responding to positive constructive feedback to support staff, demonstrates at all times specific behaviors which show a commitment to the “ownership work ethic”, volunteers to help others when they are behind or in need of assistance without being asked, willing to work over as patient volume requires to meet customer’s needs, reporting to work on time and beginning assigned work in a timely manner, recognizes when something needs to be done and takes care of it without being asked, develops and maintains smooth cooperative working relationships with others, responding promptly to inquiries, does not waste supplies and uses time wisely, presents professional appearance through compliance with dress code, maintaining privacy and/or confidential hospital information at all times.

- Demonstrates adherence to policies/procedures/standards: participation in required classes and activities for hospital accreditation, complies with specific policies/procedures/assignments concerning safety and codes, providing a safe patient environment free from hazards by complying with hospital safety policies and procedures, ensures that equipment is working properly and reporting malfunctions/abuse/loss promptly to supervising therapist/assistant and office lead, keeping noise and clutter to a minimum in a patient’s room and in therapy department.
- Participates in unit-based teams for idea-sharing, collaboration, and support of current services and new/expansion of current services as needed representing the technician specific role in the continuum of care for patients.

Qualifications
High school education or equivalent.
