The posted compensation range of $17.00 - $22.92 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Patient Care Technician I is a multi-skilled healthcare provider who supports the delivery of safe, effective, and cost-efficient patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. They perform a variety of routine tasks, including assisting with patient transport, transfers, and lifting, as well as performing cleaning functions in the patient care unit. They may also be responsible for performing selected diagnostic tests. The Patient Care Tech I applies knowledge of growth and development to provide consistent care based on the changing physical and psychosocial needs of each patient.
Essential Functions
Provide direct patient care: Assist with personal hygiene, physical care, and vital sign monitoring under RN/LPN supervision.
Record and report patient data: Accurately document vital signs, intake/output, weight, and blood glucose readings.
Communicate patient status: Report changes in patient condition promptly to the RN/LPN.
Assist with patient transitions: Support admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
Maintain patient environment: Perform housekeeping tasks, ensure patient safety, and address comfort needs.
Manage equipment and supplies: Operate vital sign machines, glucose meters, scales, lifts, and other equipment as needed.
Perform delegated tasks: Complete tasks assigned by the RN/LPN, such as venipuncture, IV discontinuation, and EKGs (depending on location).
Communicate effectively: Interact professionally with patients, families, physicians, and other staff.
Utilize technology: Operate hospital information systems, computers, and other technology as required.
Maintain a safe and clean environment: Report safety issues, broken equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Job Requirements
High School Graduate or GED
Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) within 30 days of hire
