Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

Manages the daily operations of the pharmacy to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives.  Responsible for oversight of scheduling, personnel management, procurement of medications and all day-to-day operations.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Analyzes departmental staffing requirements and mix; utilizes personnel effectively and appropriately; recommends and justifies changes in staffing as needed.            
  2. Reviews and revises as necessary all department policies and procedures (at least annually); develops new policies and procedures as necessary; monitors and assures compliance with hospital and department policies and procedures.
  3. Reviews and revises quality improvement plan; establishes and monitors indicators; implements measures to improve care or services; participates in other CQI planning and activities.
  4. Establishes and monitors process to ensure all staff complete orientation requirements within established time frames; provides other education or training opportunities to staff to assure competency.
  5. Is accountable for and demonstrates leadership/management of the services in the department including compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and accrediting bodies.
  6. Consults with and advises the professional staff on any issues pertainingto medications throughout the facility.
  7. Functions as a staff pharmacist as needed.
  8. Reviews hospital formulary for possible additions and deletions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education (for CHI Leadership Job Levels from Supervisor through President)

  • Sys/Div/Mkt/Local Manager – Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 3 years leadership experience OR minimum of 5 years leadership experience in the discipline OR Master’s Degree and no experience

Required Education for Staff Job Levels

  • Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) approved College of Pharmacy with a BS, MS, or Pharm D degree.

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • TN Board of Pharmacy License. Licensure must be received within 90 days from the first day of employment.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Completion an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency and a minimum of three years of pharmacy practice experience OR Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 and PGY2 residencies with at least one year of pharmacy practice experience. 
  • One year experience serving as a residency preceptor.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to direct and manage people and projects through other pharmacy practice or pharmacy leadership experience
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, standards and techniques relating to the compounding and dispensing of medicinal drugs
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to the     

       pharmacy profession

  • Ability to use automated systems and office equipment   

       at an acceptable level of proficiency

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of pharmaceutical care, including IV fluids, IV additive programs, automated dispensing systems, and IV therapy services
  • Ability to convey information effectively in verbal and 

       written communication

  • Computer applications such as Microsoft Office
  • Excellent time management and communication skills 

PREFERRED Qualifications

  • Completion of ASHP Pharmacy Leadership Academy
  • Board Certification
