Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Chaplain, you will serve as a vital spiritual leader and compassionate caregiver within our hospital community, providing essential spiritual counseling and support to patients, families, and staff.

Every day, you will provide direct spiritual, religious, and existential care, offering compassionate presence, support, and appropriate rituals to patients, families, and staff, especially during times of crisis or grief. You will collaborate with the healthcare team to advocate for spiritual needs and integrate holistic care, ensuring respect for diverse beliefs.

To be successful in this role, you must be a highly compassionate individual, comfortable and skilled in engaging with people who may be emotional, panicked, stressed, or in pain. You'll need the proven ability to provide empathetic care, adapt to diverse spiritual needs, and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Provides pastoral care, to patients and families in a timely manner and serves as a professional spiritual care resource
  • Maintains accurate documentation in patient charts regarding spiritual care interventions, plans, and outcomes
  • Advocates for patient rights in regard to spiritual, cultural, and psychosocial values and how they impact a patient and their support system response to their care
  • Supports an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care by participating in team meetings and rounds
  • Provides education to patients and families about spiritual resources, advance directives, organ and tissue donation, ethics, and other spiritual issues that may arise
  • Participates in ritual, worship, and sacramental needs of patients, family and staff

Job Requirements

MINIMUM

  • Masters in Theology, Pastoral Care/Counseling, Divinity
  • One year of chaplaincy experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
  • Clinical Pastoral Education: 4 units of CPE (1600 hours) in an accredited ACPE hospital center
  • Professional Competencies: Theology of Pastoral Care (302.1 - 302.5); Identify and Conduct (303.1 - 303.9) Pastoral Care (304.1 - 304.9); Professionalism (305.1 - 305.6) 
  • Board Certified Chaplain APC, within 24 - months

PREFERRED

  • Three years of chaplaincy experience in a hospital or healthcare setting

Located in Chandler, the Chandler Regional Medical Center is a 429-bed, not-for-profit hospital with more than 2,600 team members and almost 1,000 doctors on staff representing all major specialties. Chandler Regional joined the Dignity Health system in 1999, but has been part of the community for more than 50 years. The hospital includes a Level I Trauma Center, a Heart and Vascular Center, a Wound Healing Center, a Family Birth Center and many additional services. Dignity Health Chandler Regional, Mercy Gilbert, and Arizona General Hospital Mesa awarded $422,000 in grants to support five community projects led by 15 local organizations. Since 1991, Dignity Health's Community Health Improvement Grants program has provided $91 million to nearly 3,800 health projects, focusing on vulnerable and underserved populations.
