Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Security Officer, you will monitor buildings and grounds on the property to ensure the safety and security of employees, patients, and other visitors.

Every day you will monitor the property by walking and driving around the premises. Your security detail could include guarding facility and unit access points, monitoring surveillance cameras, testing new security technology, and protecting all employees/visitors against acts of violence should they arise.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need the ability to remain calm and take action based on the situation, known facts, and understand the position limitations. You are also expected to respond to emergency codes in a timely manner. Previous experience in security/patrol in a healthcare setting is preferred.

  • Monitor entrances to guard against theft and maintain security of the facility.
  • Patrols, guards and secures property and grounds. Monitors assigned areas for possible violations and regulations.
  • Conveys information orally or in written to individuals or groups to ensure they understand the message. Listens and responds appropriately to calls.
  • Identifies problems/concerns and take appropriate action to resolve the problem. Keeping I mind the available facts, constraints, and anticipated consequences.

The ideal candidate should have excellent customer service skills and experience in a corporate setting.


Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Six (6) months experience as security officer in a healthcare setting or  Law enforcement or military service; or One (1) year experience as a security officer required.
  • Current driver’s license issued by the state wherein the position is posted with satisfactory driving history. 
    Able to provide a DMV report if requested within 30 days of hire for facilities which require the position to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Current state issued guard card/license, showing no disciplinary actions, in states where required.
  • Preferred: International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Training for Healthcare Security Officer within 90 days.
  • Familiar with duties and responsibility of being a security officer.
  • Able to properly use assigned equipment and follow established policies and procedures.
  • Has obtained American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Completes ICS 100HCb, 200b, & 700a training courses within 90 days of hire.
  • Maintain all other required training/certifications thereafter while employed by CommonSpirit Health.
  • Must be able to speak English, communicate clearly orally, and in writing.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of de-escalation techniques.
