Unit Assistant
The posted compensation range of $30.25 - $34.00 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The incumbent is a member of the healthcare team whose role is to facilitate unit operations through patient registration and scheduling, order processing, requisition of services and patient procedures, processing and tracking of charges as applicable, maintaining accurate and complete patient charts, managing unit clerical supplies, and demonstrating proper communications etiquette while managing multiple phone and intercom lines. The Unit Assistant may also assist in patient care as assigned. May have access to or be required to distribute drugs, needles or syringes from storage locations, (such as large stock supplies, automated dispensing units and other carts) to/within patient care areas or treatment carts as defined by hospital policy/procedure.
Core Duties:
- Competent in psychomotor skills and technical procedures; includes proficiency in Health Information systems, supply orders and departmental data/reports
- Performs legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures; proficient and competent with the computerized documentation system
- Uses appropriate organization, priority setting and problem-solving skills
- Communicates clearly and effectively using proper communication etiquette and manages multiple phone and intercom lines; uses medical terminology accurately and includes reporting abnormals or changes in patient condition to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
- Accountable for self-directed learning and participation in continuing education to meet own professional development
- Applies safety precautions and principles to patient care; includes all National Patient Safety Goals.
- Participates in Unit, Service Line and DHMF Quality initiatives; includes patient satisfaction and core measures
- Maintains a safe working environment by utilizing appropriate resources, protocols, procedures and communication to appropriate personnel
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completetion of a medical terminology course (or equivalent knowledge) required
- Current BLS certification required (must be certified through the American Heart Association)
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience as a Unit Assistant/Clerk (or equivalent) in a healthcare setting preferred
- Previous experience assisting in direct patient care preferred
