Responsibilities

The Supervisor of Spiritual Care Services provides leadership, coordination, and daily oversight of the spiritual care department at Mercy San Juan Medical Center (MSJMC). Reporting directly to the Director of Mission Integration, and assists the Director to provide leadership and set strategic direction for spiritual care and ethical programs. This role ensures a strategic and integrated approach to spiritual and ethical values at MSJMC, supporting the holistic healing mission of CommonSpirit Health by fostering compassionate, culturally sensitive, and ethically grounded care for patients, families, and staff.


Qualifications

Experience: 

  • Skilled leader with experience in engaging with ethical dilemmas and directing continuous process improvement.
  • Ethics consultation/education with medical staff and other care givers.
  • Liaison with clergy of multi-faith traditions and facilitator of theological reflection.
  • Minimum of three years of hospital-based chaplaincy experience.
  • At least one year of supervisory,mentoring, or leadership experience in a clinical or ministry setting.

Education: 

  • B.S./B.A. degree and a Master’s degree in Theology, Divinity, Pastoral Studies or equivalent required. Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required.

Licensure:

  • Current certification by National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) required.

Job Specifications:

  • Ability to support patients and staff of all faiths or no faith background.
  • Competence in spiritual assessment, cultural agility, crisis response, and ethics consultation.
  • Strong team-building, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Familiarity with Catholic moral teaching and the ERDs.
  • Computer literacy and experience with EHR charting (e.g., Epic).

Training:

  • Advance training in counseling, conflict resolution and ethics required.
