Responsibilities

Incumbent is responsible for the daily operation and supervision of the Pulmonary, Arterial Blood Gas Lab. In addition, performs bronchoscopy assistance and pulmonary function testing. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested in professional manner.

  • Analyzes blood specimens for pH, pCO2, pO2 and THb with no more than 5 errors per year. Demonstrates competence in recognizing and reporting critical values in the pediatric, adult and geriatric patient.
  • Performs bronchoscopies and maintains records per procedure with a high degree of accuracy as demonstrated by < 5% error.
  • Performs PFT exams accurately with < 10 errors per year as demonstrated by reporting \erroneous data or having to recall patients to correct test data.
  • Performs QC tests on blood gas analyzers, performs and maintains department QC and quality metrics such as daily crash cart checks and bronchoscope cleaning audits.< 5% per year per audit.
  • Performs other procedures such as indirect calorimetry, HAST, ambulations and any other procedures requested with <5% errors per year, as demonstrated by reporting physiologically erroneous data.
  • Evaluates Blood Gas results for completeness and footnoting of critical values. Notifies therapists of their deficiencies.
  • Maintains accurate records and billing in the electronic health record with < 5% error as demonstrated by audit.
  • Performs daily maintenance of the blood gas laboratory per regulatory standards.
  • Performs duties as assigned to maintain CLIA certification.
  • Competent to perform all procedures assigned to the pulmonary lab.

Qualifications

Experience: 

  • 2 years minimum acute care experience, with 1 year of critical care experience. If no qualified candidate, may consider training positions, depending on staffing needs.
  • Pulmonary Function testing, arterial blood gas quality control and bronchoscopy experience.(preferred)

Education: 

  • Completion of an AMA approved respiratory therapy program.

Licensure: 

  • RCP and BLS Required.
  • ACLS and Registered by the National Board fo Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
  • RG RRT;ct cpracls (preferred)

Special Skills:

  • Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
