Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center is a 370-bed not-for-profit Level 2 Trauma Center located in Carmichael California serving the areas of north Sacramento County and south Placer County for more than 50 years. It is one of the area’s largest and most comprehensive medical centers. Dedicated to the community’s well-being our staff and volunteers provide excellence in care for our patients each year. Mercy San Juan Medical Center has received recognition for being a Comprehensive Stroke Center and Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery along with Certificates of Excellence in Perinatal Care Hip- and Knee- Replacement.


Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director the Base Hospital Coordinator is accountable for the Base Hospital Component sharing the daily operational accountability of a 35-bed Emergency Department with the Manager of Emergency Services. This position oversees the interface between hospital medical care and the pre-hospital EMS community. This role permits the outreach aspects of the mission and philosophy of Dignity Health, Mercy San Juan Medical Center to the EMS community in such areas as patient advocacy, promoting a climate of dignity and respect for patients and caregivers, advocating excellence in a non-threatening fashion and identifying and addressing community health needs which affect both Mercy San Juan Medical Center and the EMS profession

Responsibilities include: 

  • Evaluating the performance of staff Mobile Intensive Care Nurses (MICNs) and responsible for the education and oversight of the MICN role and responsibilities
  • Monitoring the appropriateness of base hospital medical control orders
  • Monitoring the care provided by EMTs and Paramedics 
  • Under the Base Hospital's direction acting as an EMS educational resource to Emergency Department and pre-hospital staff
  • Serving as a liaison with state and county regulatory agencies and EMS provider agencies
  • Ensuring compliance with state EMS regulatory standards (Title 22) and Sacramento County EMS policies, procedures and protocols

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Current CA RN licensure
  • 5 years of emergency services experience
  • MICN or equivalent experience (Base Station Coordinator, EMS Coordinator)
  • Operational knowledge of inpatient and outpatient practice of emergency department systems
  • Regulatory requirements related to confidentiality, release of patient information, and quality improvement
  • Knowledge of local community based health care and medical care delivery systems
  • Knowledge of emergency service delivery systems, emergency management, disaster planning, and risk communication
  • Ability to develop training programs, tactical exercises and drills.

Preferred:

  • BSN
  • Incident Command System (ICS) and/or HICS experience
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS certification from the American Heart Association
  • MICN
