Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Pathology Department Support Assistant you will perform complex customer service and clerical duties with little to no supervision. You will be responsible for clerical processing and completion of all pathology reports and assists with correspondence of Pathologists and serve as a resource for the pathology department.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Answers telephones promptly and routes customer calls appropriately.
  • Assures faxed results are complete. Makes all necessary calls according to policy and documents communications according to department procedures.
  • Prepares specimens and slides for distribution to reference laboratories. Receives reference lab reports and files reports as defined in department procedures for send outs.
  • Assists with timely billing of referral testing to patient records. Maintains records, pulling, filing and reconciling issues.
  • Performs daily follow up on unverified and/or pending test orders or account information.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction through processing orders and coordinating customer services needs in a professional manner.
Job Requirements

Required: 

  • High School Diploma/GED, and
  • 3 years related experience

Preferred: 

  • Additional College level business classes, and
  • Working knowledge of coding, billing and accounting as it relates to the position.
