Job Summary and Responsibilities

At CHI St. Alexius Health, you will serve as the executive leader responsible for nursing practice, patient care services, and clinical operations across two hospitals (Garrison and Turtle Lake) totaling approximately 50 critical access beds. As Vice President, Patient Care Services, you will provide vision, strategy, and hands-on leadership to advance quality, safety, and patient experience, while supporting a mission-driven culture grounded in compassion and collaboration.

This position plays a key role in shaping nursing excellence and operational performance across the Garrison region. The VP of PCS partners closely with the medical staff, ancillary services, and community partners to ensure that every patient receives high-quality, coordinated care in alignment with CommonSpirit Health’s values and long-term strategy. This role is ideal for an engaged, approachable, and operationally skilled nurse executive who enjoys working in a close-knit, high-accountability environment where leadership visibility and collaboration drive success.

  • Serve as the administrative and nursing leader for the assigned campuses, providing oversight and direction for nursing operations, quality, and patient care delivery.

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing systems that ensure safe, efficient, and effective care delivery.

  • Foster a professional, diverse, and inclusive environment consistent with CommonSpirit Health’s core values and ethical principles.

  • Partner with medical staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to achieve strong clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and physician engagement.

  • Evaluate and manage fiscal and human resources for nursing services; implement staffing strategies that meet patient needs and optimize resources.

  • Promote and support shared governance, professional development, and a culture of accountability and empowerment among nurse leaders and frontline staff.

  • Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives such as high reliability organization practices, quality improvement, and the development of new programs (e.g., dialysis).

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and lead continuous improvement efforts in patient safety and clinical quality.

  • Represent nursing services as a key member of the hospital’s executive leadership team, building partnerships across departments and with community stakeholders.

  • Maintain strong presence and visibility onsite with staff, patients, and families.


Job Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Master’s and Post-Graduate degree required (Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field).

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, including prior executive-level responsibility in an acute or critical access hospital setting.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active RN licensure in the state of North Dakota or Nurse Licensure Compact (license must be in state of residence).

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Training

  • Strong knowledge and application of nursing practice and systems frameworks.

  • Excellent strategic thinking skills; demonstrated resource management and stewardship abilities.

  • Proven experience in total quality management and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

  • Strong team orientation and customer focus, with the ability to lead change and influence through relationships.

  • Excellent analytical thinking skills and exceptional oral and written communication.

  • Consistent and reliable onsite presence.
