Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Security Officer, you will help the healthcare enterprise remain a safe place. You will maintain a safe and secure environment for medical staff/employees, patients, and visitors by patrolling the premises and visitor management and observing and reporting activities and incidents at an assigned site. The officer will preserve order and act to enforce regulations when assistance is requested by medical staff and employees and responding rapidly to security emergencies within the hospital or other healthcare settings. It is expected that the security officer will demonstrate behavior consistent with CommonSpirit Health core value and humandkindness. The security officer shall support CommonSpirit Health's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities. Every day you will ensure a safe and secure environment for medical staff, employees, patients and visitors within the hospital or healthcare setting. To be successful in this role, you must have proactive security measures, strong interpersonal skills, keen observation and adherence to protocols.

  • Respond swiftly and prudently to assistance calls for incidents like violent individuals, crimes, door access, and emergency codes to ensure the safety of staff, patients, and visitors
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity, integrating into clinical care teams, assisting with patient movement and restraints as requested
  • Intervene and control security incidents involving disorderly or aggressive individuals, utilizing approved de-escalation and "Use of Force" techniques and citizens' arrest when legally appropriate
  • Conduct facility and grounds patrols (foot or vehicle), monitor security alarms, and report unsafe conditions or acts
  • Possess knowledge of emergency procedures, equipment, and supplies; report HIPAA breaches; and investigate and document security incidents.
  • Effectively utilize security equipment and IT applications, including radios, badge access, and camera/alarm systems
Job Requirements

Required

  • Six (6) months experience as security officer in a hospital or healthcare setting, prior law enforcement or military service; or one (1) year experience as a security officer
  • High school diploma or equivalent; or three (3) years’ experience as a security officer
  • Current driver’s license issued by the state wherein the position is posted with satisfactory DMV report on file or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire if facility requires the position to operate a motor vehicle
  • Intermediate computer skills, writing ability, ability to work independently and use good judgment to resolve a variety of complex situation resulting in a positive outcome
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts and instructions during both calm and tense situations
  • Must be able to speak English, communicate clearly orally, and in writing; understand and use de-escalation techniques
  • Basic Life Support certification and other position specific education to be completed within 90 days and maintain all other required training/certifications thereafter while employed



Preferred

  • High School diploma, some college preferred
  • Previous Security or customer service experience
  • Licensed or Certified in the use of security equipment and tactics
