Job Summary / Purpose
The Security Officer is expected to maintain a reasonable safe and secure environment for all who enter CommonSpirit Health properties and to assure the physical security of buildings and grounds. It is expected that the security officer will demonstrate behavior consistent with CommonSpirit Health core value and human kindness.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Protecting staff, patients, and visitors by responding to calls for assistance in a timely and prudent manner to incidents such as violent or unruly patients, visitors, crimes committed or in progress, opening doors, and responding to emergency codes.
Maintain and project a high level of professionalism, integrity and instill confidence through the ware of the uniform and all interactions with team members, visitors and patients. Effectively integrate into clinical care teams and assists with the movement and restraining of patients as requested by nursing staff.
Intervene and control security incidents that may include loud, disorderly, physically aggressive or violent person’s visitors and summons police to assist if necessary. Take control of emergency situations de-escalate and maintain control using approved techniques up to and including approved “Use of Force” techniques and Citizens arrest as dictated by the state law.
Patrol the facility and grounds by foot or vehicle; monitor security alarms and respond promptly to location(s) where needed; and report un-safe acts or conditions.
Knowledge of emergency procedures, equipment, supplies, reports HIPPA breaches if witnessed; investigate security breaches, conduct initial and follow-up investigations, and write incident reports.
Effectively utilize security equipment and IT applications such as radios, badge access system, camera system, alarm systems and others.

Qualifications
Six (6) months experience as security officer in a hospital or healthcare setting, prior law enforcement or military service; or one (1) year experience as a security officer.
High school diploma or equivalent; or three (3) years’ experience as a security officer.
Current driver’s license issued by the state wherein the position is posted with satisfactory DMV report on file or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire if facility requires the position to operate a motor vehicle.
Intermediate computer skills, writing ability, ability to work independently and use good judgment to resolve a variety of complex situation resulting in a positive outcome. Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts and instructions during both calm and tense situations.
Must be able to speak English, communicate clearly orally, and in writing; understand and use de-escalation techniques.
Basic Life Support certification and other position specific education to be completed within 90 days and maintain all other required training/certifications thereafter while employed.
High School diploma, some college preferred. Previous Security or customer service experience. Licensed or Certified in the use of security equipment and tactics is preferred, but not required.
