Job Summary and Responsibilities
Registered Nurse - Surgical Unit (Acute Care)
As our Surgical Unit (Acute Care) Registered Nurse, you will help patients recovering from various surgeries or those with acute medical conditions requiring surgical intervention, providing comprehensive care to promote healing and restore optimal health. Every day you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care for a diverse population within a medical-surgical inpatient setting. You will be expected to supervise care according to policies, procedures, and the State Nurse Practice Act. To be successful in this role, you must be skilled in delivering comprehensive patient care, managing complex post-surgical needs, and facilitating patient recovery while adhering to established standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult patients with diverse surgical and acute medical needs, managing conditions related to general surgery, orthopedic surgery, urology, gynecology, and other specialties.
- Implement and manage individualized care plans focusing on post-operative recovery, including advanced wound care, drain management, pain control, mobility promotion, and prevention of complications such as infections and DVT.
- Perform ongoing assessments, monitor vital signs, interpret lab results, and adjust care based on patient response, swiftly recognizing and responding to changes in patient condition.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, hospitalists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care, timely discharge planning, and optimal patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and their families thoroughly on disease processes, post-surgical recovery, medication management, self-care techniques, and discharge instructions, empowering them for a successful transition home or to a rehabilitation facility.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient assessments, interventions, medications, and responses, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements for safe and effective patient care.
THIS JOB OFFERS BOTH AN INCENTIVE AND RELOCATION: We are offering a $25,000 Sign-On Bonus in addition to relocation to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements.

Shift Length/Type: 12 hour shifts, Rotating day and night shift
On Call Expectations: None
Weekend/Holiday Rotating: Every third weekend /Two holidays per year
Job RequirementsRequired Qualifications
- Nursing Degree from an approved school of nursing
- NEW GRADS WELCOME!
- LICENSURE Active Registered Nurse license in good standing with the North Dakota Board of Nursing or Active Registered Nurse license in a compact state
- Working knowledge of clinical skills in delivery of patient care for medical-surgical and post-surgical patients
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within the orientation period and meets re-certification as required
- Good communication skills necessary for constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, and medical center staff
- Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, between other disciplines, departments, families, visitors, and patients
- Maintains confidentiality
