Responsibilities

CHI St. Alexius is looking for a Full Time Registered Respiratory Therapist to join the team.

The Respiratory Therapsist will provide and coordinate high quality Respiratory Therapy upon the order of a licensed physician to promote the health and recovery of patients served by the St. Alexius Medical Center.

What You'll Do:

  • Performs basic and intensive respiratory therapies, including but are not limited to; aerosol therapy, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen therapy, diagnostics, patient/family education, invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, patient transport, mechanical ventilation management, hemodynamic monitoring, airway management, capnography, rapid response team member,  inhaled nitric oxide. Drawing, analyzing and reporting results from arterial, venous, capillary and spinal fluid samples for Point of Care testing.
  • Is a team player; works as a team with co-respiratory therapists, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals to manage patient care and delivery of quality patient care.

  • Identifies problems, determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and to make recommendations.

  • Update respiratory therapy job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  • Employ evidence-based practice.  Integrate best research with clinical expertise and patient values for optimum care, and participate in learning and research activities to the extent feasible.

  •  Actively participates in daily patient rounds.
  • Communicates key components of current patient status for an efficient and effective transition of care from each respiratory therapy shift change.

  • Explain treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears.

  • Educate patients and their families about their conditions and teach appropriate disease management techniques and the use of medications and respiratory therapy equipment.

  • Uses Respiratory Therapy Protocols to develop therapeutic goals and formulate care plans for patients.


Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited/AMA certified School of Respiratory Therapy.  An Associate/Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy is preferred.

Licensure: Licensed with the North Dakota State Board of Respiratory Care.

Experience:  Must complete phase I and phase II general respiratory therapy orientation to be considered.  Must have completed Phase III Respiratory Therapy orientation in at least one of the following areas, as required for the area worked in by the Therapist:  Pulmonary Function Lab (7086-5420), Sleep Center (7046-5420), ICU (7085-5425), NICU (7085-5423) or Pulmonary Rehab (7096-5420) to be considered a RT III.

Works under the following conditions:  potential exposure to biological, chemical, mechanical, radiological and electrical hazards associated with medical center operations. Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)-ICU (required).  Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP)-NICU (required).  Optional education/certifications:  Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), STABLE
