- Prepare, fill and distribute unit-dose drugs and performs medication exchange with nursing units.
- Will assist in the preparation of sterile intravenous admixtures under pharmacist supervision.
- Maintains the prescription files, answers phones and triages calls..
- Maintains adequate levels of drugs and records on the order-book items that fall below minimum level.
- Assists the pharmacist in all aspects of the daily departmental activities.

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
The Pharmacy Technician in Training is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in the operations related to medication
preparation and distribution. Medication preparation requires extreme accuracy and attention to detail. The pharmacy
technician has high level security clearance with access to all medication storage areas, procedural areas, surgical suites,
etc. The pharmacy technician works in a highly regulated environment and must take care to abide by all state and
federal regulations that relate to the practice of pharmacy including record keeping and infection prevention standards.
Responsibilities include accurately performing pharmaceutical calculations, compounding non-sterile dosage forms, and
effectively utilizing inventory management systems and automated dispensing cabinets.
The pharmacy technician practices in a fast paced and often high stress environment with constant interruptions, phone
calls, requests from clinical staff and requests from pharmacists. The pharmacy technician must be flexible and must
constantly prioritize work, responding to acute critical patient needs in addition to scheduled duties. The pharmacy
technician must demonstrate initiative and be willing to work as a cohesive member of a team.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform all duties of a pharmacy technician in accordance with established policies and procedures related to
the preparation and distribution of medication
2. Perform duties required to restock medication dispensing cabinets and fill first doses
3. Perform duties required for patient specific medication delivery
4. Perform duties required for narcotic distribution and assist in discrepancy resolution
5. Process credits and restock returns
6. Record waste
7. Answer phone and determine order status; triage calls for appropriate resolution
8. Ensure current dating of all supplies and medications
9. Replenish drug emergency carts
10. Assist in training new personnel
11. Maintain all records and documents in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Qualifications
High School graduate or GED required
Eligible for enrollment in an American Society of Health Systems
Pharmacists accredited academic program OR accredited on-the-job
training program.
Eligible for Licensure as a ND Pharmacy Technician in training as
required by the ND State Board of Pharmacy. Within 24 months of
hire, must complete training program approved by the board of
pharmacy and Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification
Board (PTCB)
