Mental Health Technician
The posted compensation range of $15 - $20.31/hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Mental Health Technician, you will help patients develop healthy coping mechanisms and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment so they can achieve emotional and social well-being.
Every day you will provide direct patient care and support their growth. You will be expected to monitor their physical, emotional, and social needs, and act as a role model.
To be successful in this role, you must possess physical and mental health, emotional maturity, and interpersonal competence.
- Assist patients in developing individuality and appropriate methods of self-expression through a trauma-informed care atmosphere.
- Provide feedback and positive reinforcement for behavioral patterns, applying program rights and regulations appropriately.
- Provide appropriate emergency care, maintain a secure environment, and perform basic nursing tasks (vital signs, blood pressure, specimen collection, accu checks, ADL assistance).
- Provide trauma-informed care and supervision to patients needing physical restraints or seclusion.
- Support patients in dealing with relationship difficulties and teach appropriate socialization skills.
- Facilitate various supportive, classroom educational, and psych-educational activities.
- Communicate effectively (verbal and written) within a diverse and multicultural environment, maintaining harmonious working relationships with interdisciplinary teams.
- Utilize Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) techniques to avoid or reduce the use of restraints/seclusion.
- Document objective observations of patient behaviors, program involvement, social interactions, and mental status.
Requirements
- High School Diploma with at least one (1) year of experience as a Psych Tech or equivalent.
- Must be listed on the Nurse Assistant Registry operated by the North Dakota Department of Health at the time of hire or within ninety (90) days of employment.
- BLS from the American Heart Association (AHA) or BLS instructor certification.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting - APS-IA & NE within six (6) months of hire.
- First Aid - PRTF only within six (6) months of hire.
Preferred
- A Bachelor's Degree in a Human Service field.
- Graduate of a Psychiatric Assistant or Nurse Aide training program.
- One (1) year of experience in the Behavioral Health field.
- Current nursing student or student studying a Human Services field.
- Prior experience with nursing staff supervision.
